Experiments in dye Empty Experiments in dye

Dye somehow never quite turns out how you think, hence this page. Also, after dyeing, RINSE OUT YOUR DYE PAN!!! I mean boil water in the pan, then tip out & rinse in hot water. Otherwise residue from your previous lot WILL contaminate the new lot (a real pain with the likes of Kentucky Sky!!!). Here are a few of my experiments in dye, as demonstrated on Discord.

Yellow fail (possibility of green contamination)

Glitter vs Plain 2 in green

Too much purple??? (aka how I learned to keep an eye on purple projects)

Teal, pink & red, plus Apoxie dyes!!!

Successful yellow (drop of sandstone helped), also featuring orange & red
Posted so it helps others with some of the basics.

Note: Apoxie dyes well unless you're using Royal Purple, then it dyes a different colour (ink blue). Be warned!!!

More to add to this thread!!! Left Pony: green & my "yellow" (see above) in two sepatrate dye baths to make a truer green. Right pony: red & purple in two separate dye baths to make this burgundy.

And here I dyed: Irukandji (pink), her shell (green, note it turned out a pale green), & the glow in the dark hair (yellowish). The purple hair is just a shade I selected to go wi the rest of her bits.

Sweetiebelle head, Puzzlemint Body. Easiest way to make more G3 Unicorns is merging Sweetiebelles wi other baity G3s; that gives me a unicorn & a G3 Boy!!! I can make horns out of Apoxie, but they fall off & need reglued... (not to mention the purple issue)

That particular unicorn will be Yule Log, to go wi Snow Ell the pegasus & all the earth Winter Ponies

Jet's guide on how to make black. I used: Midnight navy, then orange, then graphite to make a true black. The first two colours combine to make a very dark brown, but get the graphite strong enough & it makes that a perfect black. Jet the Halloween cat was my "volunteer" in helping wi this.
